Once you have managed to open the network "web folders" where our Country files are located, you are ready to post your work to the web.

Step 1: Find the Proper Folder for submitting (or, "saving") your work.

Example: If you are part of the South Korea Country Group, open the "South Korea" folder on the network.  Then, if you are going to submit work about S. Korean organizations (e.g., political parties, labor unions, etc.), open the "organizations" folder within "South Korea."  Finally, if you are going to submit writing about a political party, open the "political parties" folder.

Any documents about political parties should ultimately be saved in the proper "political parties" folder of your Country Group.  If documents are not saved in the proper folder, other members of your group may be unable to locate the documents in order to supplement your work with additional information.

If you are going to edit an existing page, find the proper folder, then double-click on the filename for the page you want to edit.  This will open the page for editing.  If you are going to edit an existing page, skip Step 2 and go directly to Step 3.

Step 2: Create a New Page for each new entity; each organization (and ultimately, each person of significance) gets its own page.

Example: If you are going to provide information about a political party that does not yet have its own page saved within the "political parties" folder your Country Group folder, you should create a new page for that party.

To create a new page, simply hit "Ctrl+N" -- or go to "File --> "New" --> "Page" and select a "Blank New Page" from the options that (might) appear in a set of options on the right side of the page.

Step 3: Enter Text

For help formatting text so that you get credit for your work, see How to Place a Bookmark; How to Create Superscript Text; and How to Link to a Bookmark

Save your work as often as possible in order to minimize the risk of lost/overwritten work.  It is also recommended that you save your work to an off-line location (e.g., on your home computer hard drive) before moving on to step 4.

Step 4: Save & Close the Page.

Hit "Ctrl+S" -- or go to "File --> "Save."

If the page is a new document, you should give it a name that easily identifies the topic of the page.  In the case of organizations, an acronym or short name is appropriate.  When creating a page for a new person, the page should be named with the last name, followed by a period, and then the first name.  Be sure to save the page in its proper folder.

Close the page.

Caution: If you are saving an existing page and you encounter a message asking if you want to replace a more recent version of the page, DO NOT replace the more recent page.  If you do, you will overwrite the work of another member of your group!

If you encounter such a message:

1.      Re-name your copy of the document (using the "Save As" option listed under "File").

2.      Next, open both your re-named copy and the originally named document (the "more recent version" mentioned in the message).  Carefully identify those elements from your re-named document that do not appear in the more recently saved version and manually paste those sections into the more recently saved version.  In order to minimize the need to manually paste large volumes of "unsaved" work in your older, re-named copy of the document, save your work frequently as you enter new text.

3.      Finally, save the more recent version and, in order to avoid future confusion, delete your re-named document from the web folder (although you are obviously welcome to save a copy of the re-named document to an off-line location).

If you have been editing an existing page, you have completed the steps for submitting new work.  If you have created a new page, go on to step 5.

Step 5: Create a Hyperlink from the "index" (or "home") page document of the current folder (e.g., the index/home page of the "political parties" folder) to your newly created document.

i.        Open the "index" file of the current folder.

ii.       Type the name (and, if appropriate, the acronym) of the organization profiled in your new document.

iii.     "Select" the entire name you just typed by running the cursor over the word(s).

iv.     Hit "Ctrl+K" or click on the "Insert Hyperlink" button , or go to "Insert" --> "Hyperlink."

v.      Browse for your new document, which should be saved in its proper folder.  Click on the filename of your document.

vi.     Hit "OK"

vii. Save and Close the index file.

Congratulations.  You have completed the steps for submitting new work.  To check your work, use a web browser to visit your Country Page and view the new work.  If you have created a new page, but your hyperlink does not appear on the appropriate index page (and, therefore, you are unable to view your new work), hit "refresh" on the browser.
